Hi- My puppy is 17 weeks old and in the past few days he really has been having a very hard time using his rear legs. I've always noticed a wobble but figured it was due to him being a puppy and growing. But this has def. progressed. Unfortunately we have hard wood floors and its so hard for him to keep on them that they often slide out and cause him to fall. but again this is new. he has always had a bit harder time on them then the rug but he has never had as many slips as he has in the past fews days. I'm deeply deeply concerned. He is going to his vet tommorow but I would love to hear if others have had this experience. I've read the posts on the limping and the tripping and the post of Dr. Allen's explanation on there loose joints. I realize it could be similiar. but the falling really worries me. I feel as though he is avoiding using his legs. i notice he says laying down and just drags himself around w/ his front body when he wants to move (again something he has been doing pretty much since we got him) I just wanted to hear from other Neo owners if this is something they have dealt w. and if it is just normal for him to be going through this. because if it wasnt for reading the similiar posts i would def. think there was something wrong w/ his legs. Thanks for all your help
Wow, it could be a few things from a pretty severe case of Panosteitis to a very much more concerning Wobblers. Definitely see the vet and have x-rays taken.
Please crate him more and get some cheap rugs. _________________________ Nikki Agrippina Mastino

You state in your post that you are "deeply deeply concerned". Why were you not "deeply deeply concered" when he has been doing this for a long time as you state. The poor dog has been in pain and you have just ignored him, NOW that he is in so much pain you want to be the good dog owner and take him to the vet? You should be ashamed of yourself and should not be allowed to own a pet.
I hope your dog gets better and recovers.

Is there a cure for Panosteitis? And which type of xrays should I request from the vet? I have reserached Pano a little bit. Wouldnt he be crying or showing some type of expression of pain. I have been touching and rubbing around his back leg area and he doesnt react at all esp not in pain. Does any of this sound like it could be from rapid growth. He weighed in at 67 just a week ago so I dont believe he is larger then he should be. I just hope that it is not something serious. I just want him to be a happy, heathy guy. He is just a baby. Thanks for you help Carly
Latinomasti That is a very cruel post. This seriousness has been just noticed yesterday. He has not been falling or slipping before then. He has always been able to walk just fine. just a little wobbly b.c of being a puppy nothing else. Since we got him my dog has been to his vet on a weekly basis and has had over 6 sets of xrays due to us bringing him there over every little concern. Our vet has checked him over with a fine tooth comb and has not noticed anything to alarm her on his legs. this is the first time we are worried about this. We spare no time or expense making sure he has the upmost care. I was posting here in hopes that I could get some support and advice from others that have Neo's but if I'm going to be judged as a bad dog owner from trying to explain my dogs ailments in one paragraph then maybe its not the best place for me to look for information. I take great offense to your post. If you do not have anything positive to say please do not reply. Thank you Carly
If your dog just drags himself around w/ his front body when he wants to move since you got him and you take him to the Vet and he does thinks that is normal.. then my advice to you is go to a different Vet. LatinoMastino

OK i guess it sounds a lot worse. I apologize. Its not like he is dragging himself across the room he just does it when he is lazy and I was just trying to explain that I notice a difference in what I am seeing now and its not the same as him being lazy and instead of standing up and walking the two steps to his toy he squirms his body to get to it. Again I dont think whatever is going on w. him is painful to him. He hasnt cried about me touching him and when he does get up and go out to the bathroom there is no verbal complaint. Thank you for you help I guess I'll just see what his doctor says tommorow. Carly
Go to the vet for sure...By the sounds of things it seems a little more serious then just a little limp (but I do hope that's all it is).
I would do your best to make things really comfortable and easy on him. Get some more rugs to cover the hard wood floors...Put them anywhere he hangs out. This will make it a little easier and more comfortable for him to get up from the down position, and to walk around without slipping. Perhaps he could have injured himself from slipping...A pulled muscle can take a while to heal, and it doesn't help if he keeps slipping.
I am personally not a fan of crate rest...Dogs need to get exercise (along with a good diet) in order to get and maintain muscle. Plus the muscle helps to support the joint, etc. I would not be taking him out for long excursions, or allow him to go nuts around the house...But rather get him out for regular short walks. This way he can keep things stretched out, but doesn't push too hard and injure himself further.
When you get your x-rays done...I would look at the knees, hips and spine...
Dogs are really tough beings. My eldest shepherd has major issues, but not once has she ever yelped in pain when I have touched her. With dogs some signs of pain will be ruluctance to do something that they normally would do...Although they may not yelp in pain, when you rub them they may look uncomfortable or just get up and walk away, or they may switch sides so that the sore side is away from you and protected...They may not want to get up at all (pretty extreme)...
I hope this helps a bit...Let us know how it goes at the vet. We are here to help... Kate and the zoo
Thank you. We do have large area rugs in all rooms its just the kitchen that does not. We are discouraging him from going in there. So he mostly is in the rugged area. Getting him to rest is not a problem since he is a baby and likes his naps. Thanks for your advice. Carly
If you don't yet know the problem, crate him. Every time he gets up or slips he could possibly be re injuring. Until you know what is really going on I'd take the safer road.:) _________________________ Nikki Agrippina Mastino
