A friend of mine has a 2 and a half week old pup who literally wobbles! Its hard to explain, the pups have started trying to walk and are pushing themselves up they are all big strong pups, but one is wobbling, it's like a shuddering movement almost like he has alzheimer's or is putting too much effort into rasing himself up. This particular pup had an umbilicial infection. Ive suggested asking her vet for Antirobe antibiotics, which will help the infection as these are broad spectrum but as a precaution are also prescribed for toxmoplamiosis. Has anyone experienced this themselves, or have any ideas of what it could be, and what could help?

I had one that shook hard when he tried to stand up. Like all over! We called him Shakes till the day he left!
He ended up just fine, was like he was trying to hard or something!

He's been on antibiotics for 6 days now and the wobbles seem to be subsiding, I must admit i thought he was perhaps putting too much effort into trying to push himself up but i now looks as though it was toxmoplamiosis. He goes for a check up tomorrow as the vet hasnt seem him for a week a suspect they will see a drastic improvement, its hard to see any improvemtn when you seem him everyday.

Great news guys wobble isnt wobbling anymore, he is now a very tubby, strong, very healthy, naughty little boy, but i think the name has stuck...lol

There was no culture done, i suggested putting him on antibiotics for a week to see the outcome first.....
Vets seem to do cultures first even though the diagnosis is staring them in the face its not always the best course of action but in this case it probably saved both anne and wobble a bit of suffering while waiting for the results.....and saved a little money too!

Just a thought though, has anyone experienced this? I presume maybe the litter, the dam, maybe both are now carriers of this disease... Does anyone know anything about it ? Can the dam be vaccinated against passing it on to future litters?

I am glad he is doing well, I don't know if that means they would be carriers now, that is a good question, I am hoping someone will respond that knows. Post pics soon of the little ones!!!!

Just a quick update....
Wobble is a fat little 8 weeker now!  No more problems.....
However, his litter sister went off her food for a while and the vet seemed to think it was a heart problem or fluid around the heart, she seemed to be gasping a bit and heaving....
On asking a friend "Linzi Hughes" further about the symptoms of Toxo it was confirmed that heart failure is also a symptom of Toxo, once again the pup was put on Antirobe antibiotics and hey presto within 4 days a drastic improvement!
The little girl has lost a lot of weight but both pups are doing fine, to be on the safe side the other pup in the litter was also put on Antirobe for a week!
