A lot of people think that their vets are God and make no mistakes. Well vets only know what they have actually seen and experienced in their yrs of being a vet. Cipro or Baytril is fine for adult dogs, but a huge no no for growing large breed pups. If you need a sulpher based drug for your large breed pup use, SMZ TMP or Bactrim only. Case in point, My friend Michelle had an English Mastiff pup that was 9 months old and had an UTI. She called me and said the vet had put him on Cipro was this ok. I said Michelle Cipro is baytril, she got in the car went to the vet while I was on the phone with her. She started screaming to him, he said this, Michelle your dog is 135 lbs how much bigger do you think he will get? She said his Dad was 239 lbs, the vet immediately started appoligizing and refunded the cipro and put him on smz tabs. So please watch what your vet prescribes your growing pup. Cipro and Baytril causes severe bone infections that can even lead to having to put pups down.
