On another forum there was a discussion that ended up not going too well. It brought me to this question....
How common, or have you ever seen (in person), or had- a litter with an abnormal pup color come out? Like two blues producing a black pup? -Genetic screw up? Or there happens to be a black male somewhere nearby ??
I left that board and question far behind on Molosser dog don't want to do anything more than bash the Neapolitan breed at any chance they get. Good Luck!

It is impossible for two true blue dogs to make black. Blue being a recessive of black can't make a dominant color. The only way blue would be able to make black is when the two blue dogs in question are hybrids. That is both have a white dog (another breed) in their background and they have the black gene is masked by the white gene. From these hydrids you will have black dogs produced from blue. True color blue Mastini or cane e presa will never produce black. There was a case back in the 80's that a breeder had 13 black pups from 2 blue parents. This breeder was taken to court and sued by the puppy buyers. The pups were dnaed and found to be cross bred to a black Fila. The breeder had to repay all the money to the puppy buyers. Black dogs were a rare commodity back then, so the breeder tried to capitolize from that. The geneticist that gave the results that it was a 1 in 1 trillion chance that 2 blues would make a black puppy, but not 13. A 1 in 1 trillion chance means it's an impossibility to produce black from 2 blues.
Wolf, that is the wonderful thing about America and the internet.... I said basically the same thing Gonnie stated. You can not get a black puppy from two blues, unless the background of the dogs in question is suspect. But the genetic expert on MD would have us believe, based on a poster's word, that a dozen cases have appeared in the breed over the last decade. A breed that is notoriously rampant for false pedigrees and mix breedings (other dog breeds interbred) and world wide maybe 50,000 puppies produced. Believe what you want, we already know what you think of the breed based on your posts on the web,

Two blues make black? Happens to me all the time!
Well at least we now all know you have Hybrid dogs. LOL
2 blue Tibetan Mastiffs can produce black pups 2 blue Pits can produce black pups 2 blue Corsi can produce black pups 2 blue Neapolitans can produce black pups
Now, whether this is or isn't up to anyone's liking doesn't make a difference. The fact remains that it can happen. And besides, we're talking about the Mastino here. Between all the lying and cheating, false pedigrees, constant crossbreeding and poorly thought out inbreeding that the Neo world is anchored in, anything can happen. This isn't a slam, it's just the way it is. Instead of turning personal tastes and assumptions into "rules" for the breed as a whole, it'd be better to just focus on the dogs and lines one has a complete understanding of, while learning more about everything and anything which may be of assistance in producing desired results and establishing some kind of predictability in one's stock. So yeah, while 2 blue Neos "shouldn't" produce black pups, it does happen and it isn't anything to get bent out of shape over. Again, we're talking Mastini here, folks. Al Wolf Click me
