Now that is a way too familiar site for me. We have had bears in our yard all through the summer. Believe me, the dogs have a very special bark for those creatures! Irene O\'Connor USNMC Treasurer Rescue Volunteer Please support the USNMC 2009 National Specialty!

What amazes me is that in the mountains EVERYONE has a dog almost for the purpose of scaring the bears away ...its amazing how a blue heeler for example can send a bear up a tree . One thing i do enjoy about the mountains is the fact that EVERYOne has a dog it seems and they are almost all dearly loved just something i noticed when i was in the kootney mountains this summer.they are all round EVERYWHERE you go . The first time my Pearl (9 yo neo) saw a bear she barked, ran up on the porch and peed. The Yellow Lab chased the bear away. It was hilarious to see the protective neo so scared! I was very thankful that Austin came back in one piece!!
mel, you better take a whistle with you. That seems to work scaring off the bears in New Jersey.
