Ok for years i have heard not to breed tawny to tawny but no one has ever been able to give a concrete answer as to why? Can anyone explain this? I see it like two blue eyed blonde haired people having a baby...what would be the problem?
There is no reason why you cannot or should not breed Tawny to Tawny. Why this is not done?? I beleive this is because Tawny is a rare color. The nice thing about it is, if you do breed two tawny dogs, you will have ALL tawny puppies.
Remember color gene has nothing to do with Type. The color gene is a total different gene.

For every 10 good blues, there is maybe ONE good tawny. And to be honest, right now in the USA I can think one ONE good tawny male- Lucca owned by Lori and Heidi. Prolly 4 tawny bitches around of good type. Linda's young girl, Heidi's Penelope, Major League's big Stradone bitch, and Garry's bitch. For the USA that is pretty much it!! Very limited IMHO- So I would rather breed for the type I want rather than the color with so little to choose from. _________________________ Nikki Agrippina Mastino
This is a trend in alot of breeds. For example, one cannot find many blue or fawn Dobermans as good as Blk ones, or liver color Dalmations, or blue & chocolate Shar-peis, Aprocot Mastiffs, Wheat Scottish Terriers and countless other examples.....
I believe there is nothing wrong with breeding a good tawny X good tawny, but I think the majority's goals are to get an all tawny color litter. I like the mahogany myself. .
Here is a male I produced in the 80's His name was Thundermug Monstro.. click on box in next post by me .. sorry its not large but you can see his head quality
We have 2 black females that carry colour and one tawny female but we do not own a male that carries colour. I would not sacrifice quality for colour when choosing a mate. LINK Baby Blue Kennels
