Hi, I am new to this site. I came across this site yesterday after having an issue with my 2 year old neo and am looking for help! I live in the UK and I have a blue bitch - her show name is Lesall Starfly. She was 2 years old in April. I will post some pictures as soon as I've worked out how to. She is the first neo i have ever had and is in fact my first dog although I have lived and worked with animals (and a lot of dogs) all my life. Her name is Pamplemousse and she is first and foremost my security. I own a horse shop and because of the stock my shop carries and the threats from gypsies, and because I am a short and small female, I find a large dog is the best deterrent!
Pamplemousse comes to work with me every day - she has access to the great outdoors and a wide social circle of friends (canine) and admirers (people). In fact, Pamplemousse comes everywhere with me or my partner, she doesn't get left alone. She comes to the stables but does not like to come out riding with me although she always has the choice - she generally can't be bothered with all the walking! She's quite the comedian and is hilarious but also capable of being a real pain in the ass. She will not be rushed, she likes to be woken up slowly in the morning with a tummy rub and is very fussy about food. She will also ignore me for long periods if I have done something to annoy her and can sulk for hours.
However, she is amazing and we are so pleased with her. My partner and I wanted a neo and did a lot of research and waited three years until we were in a position to have one and look after one properly. I will go and look on the forums now to search for help on our problem,

nice to meet you! funny my 2 sweetie pies True and ellie , have to be woken up very slowley aswell , they generally take anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes to dray their butts outa their crates and do demand a seriuos cuddle session , and licking and pawing me and each other for a fair bit of time , once they are out! This is a gret site with alot of great members many with a ton of wisdom and knowledge about the breed! Welcome! Cheers Mel
On Wednesday of this week, Pamplemousse bit a dog. It was a Norfolk terrier and was not provoking in any way that I could see. I had just arrived at the stables and as the terrier shot past me, Pamplemousse grabbed it and made a hole in it. I realise this could be a lot worse, the actual damage to the terrier was fairly minor, a hole on the outer tissue and a small tear to the muscle underneath - the vet could not believe that this was the only damage and insisted on looking for more holes and broken ribs!
However, she has never bitten anything before (I use the term 'bite' loosely as I think it was more of a grab but even so, she never punctures my skin) but over the last 3/4 weeks has started to ignore me a lot, chase cats a lot and generally become a bit bullying. There are two older dogs that live next to my shop - both labradors and very wobbily on their feet and Pamplemousse has taken to dive-bombing them and really roughing them up. She has started to become intolerant of small dogs and being in a horsey area, everyone has a jack russell!
The problem is I am now petrified of her grabbing/ biting another dog. It is very embarrasing to have this happen and would be a nightmare for business and for me if she gains a reputation for being unruly or aggressive. I would like this to be an isolated incident but what should I do? I do not believe in taking our neo to regular obedience classes as they do not understand the breed and refuse to make allowances for their unique natures. We once had some help from a friend who is also a dog trainer but Pamplemousse just decks her (stands on her back legs and pushes her over), this is the only person she has ever floored or tried to floor so that is also of no use.
my dogs go to full defense mode when startled...which sounds like the scenario you presented, of the terrier darting out of nowhere...with your neo by your side...
4 of my 11 mastiffs hate little yap yap dogs....and 1 of those hates "ALL" dogs...the smallest female...Bindi "La Bitch"
