Seeing some of those breeds and the breeders reasoning for such things is completely crazy. It only showed a few brief seconds of some low quality mastino. Although it said they were champions which is incorrect as there is no Ch Status for them in UK.

But It definitely shows that the mastino is nowhere near as bad as the rest and still quite easily salvageable.

Ulike the bulldogs, pugs, pekinese and cavalier king charles spaniels which look like they are very much doomed,
And those German shepherds looked terrible to see moving and those sloping rears looks disastrous.

What I heard was that ALL dogs are being subjected to undue genetic stress because of how we breed them. The fact that some breeds are worse off than others seems to be secondary. If anything I think that these types of documentaries should spur us to do more to help our dogs, not get defensive. I for one, would love to see brother/sister, mother/son, father/daughter breedings become unable to be registered. I also like the idea of DNA mapping breeding stock, at first it would be an expensive, and possibly heartbreaking thing, but once we all got back to lines that test well AND look "right" won't we be able to be even more proud of our dogs?

I have never liked the fact of breeding brother/sister, mother/son, father/daughter, but that is what is out there. There are some lines that are HEAVILY inbreed that the dog does not even look like it is suppose to. Exhadurated to say the least.

I see this every day grooming dogs, specialy when you venture outside the working groups. I guess because they have no real purpose.
I think its the standards set forth. they have little to do with a dogs purpose wich should be the real test of a breed, and the judges should know an unhealthy animal when they see one. If they did we wouldn't be in this position.
