my favorite female has bloated 3 times, been at deaths door...luckily i was witness to it each of the 3 times....
the first time it happened, of coarse each time it was in the middle of the night, i called my vet,the first time it happened and he rushed over and taught me a trick that ive used another two times , since that 1st experience...

heres what you do...take a large gage hypodermic needle(all you'll need is the needle)...plunge it into the dogs abdomen, it may take more the one attempt...what you're wanting to happen is "Deflate" the abdomen...so you'll be listening and smelling for escaping gas coming from the syringe....once you've accomplished this....you'll apply pressure to the stomach at the same time...(i lay across the stomach)....usually it requires moving the needle around to several different locations around the stomach...and it can take up to an hour to fully deflate the stomach....
so...i always have several hypodermic needles on hand for just such occasions....its an extremely simple procedure...and whats the alternative..watching your beloved pet die an agonizing death,,,

IT WORKS....AND ITS SIMPLE
at the stage my dog has been at each time...it was the last option i had

hope this can save another dogs life...my gift to all of you

Hey,
Thanks johnnyO!

I knew about the needle, and have a large gauge, (14 iv catheter) taped to our fridge, will stock more, didn't realize you had to move it around, thanks so much for sharing!

the reason for the movement...is to assure you deflate as much as possible...you'll hear and or smell when the deflating stops...by moving it to another spot it will continue....its important to be able to recognize the symptoms of the bloat....apart from the obvious humongous stomach, your dog will appear distressed, restless, panting, dry mouth, (mine froths)
the dog will even moan....once you've seen a dog with bloat..and the stages it goes through...you'll be able to spot it right away....
the first time it happened we almost didnt catch it in time...because the dog could no longer walk...
the next two times i recognized it and was able to take action much sooner....the dog is always right as rain the next day....and shows positive signs usually a half hour into the remedy...

If there was no other option, will stabbing it with sharp knife do the trick? I'm just wondering?

latino, i think more damage would be done that way although if it was a small knife such as a pocket knife it may work, dont know if you were serious or not, but if that was the last resort and you had to buy time to get a vets help, well desperate times would call for desperate measures. I keep the trochures around too along with bottles of liquid simithicone ( i never can spell that ) a couple bottles in the house and then in my purse and car just in case, if the stomach has not torsioned yet you dump the sim in them and hual butt for help, I used to keep the gell gas releif tabs but they are hard to get down and if you break them to get the liquid out it takes forever to get the amount needed. I bought the sim at natures farmacy and also buy the digestive inhancer there as well as the multi vit, heres a link if anyone wants to check it out

The needle trick work as a temperary fix, but you still need to take the dog to the vets as soon as possible though. Reason being most of the time toxins also build up in the bloodstream and this need to be removed. The dog should be placed on iv's to rid the bloodstream of the toxins. Atleast 2 bags of iv fluid should be used for flushing.
