Well I wanted to pop back in and say another Thank you to all who chatted w/ me regarding my Neo search. You all were fantastic and I really appreciate all the help. My search is now over and Sunday afternoon we welcomed an adorable 13 week old female Neo to our family

I can't tell you how thrilled I am to have found her! She's a little fat ball of joy. We named her "Nisse"([ˈnìsːɛ]) is a mythical creature of Scandinavian folklore originating from Norse paganism. Nisse were believed to take care of a farmer's home and children and protect them from misfortune, in particular at night, when the housefolk were asleep. (her mother was imported from Norway) She's not perfect by show or breeding standards, as she has a heart murmur, but we're in hopes that she will outgrow this and live a long wonderful life w/ us. Here's a couple of pics of our new arrival...

OMG!! What a beautiful face!!! Stay with us on the forum and share her growth, please.... Heart murmurs can disappear... Did they say, is it a functional murmur??

Gorgeous! And yes heart murmurs can disappear in puppies. I had a bullmastiff pup diagnosed once with a grade 3 murmur at 8 weeks of age (grade 3 being a pretty loud one). A few months later he went to a cardiologist and the murmur had completely disappeared. Good luck with her and keep us posted on her!

I made an appointment to get her last round of puppy shots, and rabies on May 16th because she'll be 4months. I'm going to have the murmur evaluated at that time. Keep your fingers crossed for us everybody

As far as feeding puppy??? So many different opinions on this subject. Is it ok for me to be feeding her small quantities several times a day? She's 13 weeks now... and weighs in at just under 40lbs. I've been giving her 1/2 cup of dry food mixed w/ 1/4 cup meat and rice 4x's a day. I've been told that small meals several times a day is better than one or two large meals, as far as bloat is concerned? It makes sense so I went with that idea. Any suggestions as far as supplements I should be giving? I do probiotics, calcium, fish oil, and MSM already. How do you all feel about the glucosamine for puppies?

WAY TOO MANY SUPPLEMENTS !!!! I'll bet your even feeding kibble that says pup food ......Simple is the best way to go . Good whole foods , Raw meats & bones , whole grain carbs ; brown rice & steel cut oats , greens such turnip & collard , peas too . Sweet potatoes are FULL of good things . As far as kibble a good quality chicken & rice or lamb & rice based ADULT kibble only !!! The ONLY supplement I use is lard for coats & energy ...SLOW EVEN GROWTH ... Also make sure the pup gets plenty of fresh air & sunshine.....esp with that heart murmur ....GOOD LUCK .......

I would NOT give a pup any calcium supplements it does more harm than good. Other than the calcium I think you are doing fine. The only other one I would add in would be Ester-C. I give a product (Liquid Health Level 5000) that has glucosamine, MSM, Shark cartalige, and vit. c. etc. that is in liquid form so it is easy to just pour on the food instead of trying to hide pills in something. I give it to all of our dogs puppies included. Good luck at your appointment to get her murmur checked out. Hopefully you can get some reassuring news!

I am a firm believer in free feeding. They do not gobble down every morsel of food given all at one time, no food aggretion, etc... and they eat small amounts throughout the day as their bodies tell them that they need food. I have several in my home and food is down all the time with no issues what so ever. I feed a combo of 24/18 adult kibble with cooked chicken and rice mixed in at all times.

I agree with Joni that Ester -C and Level 5000 is a great combo!! NO CALCIUM!

Good luck with Nisse. She is adorable.

I too like free feeding. I had Scout on a schedule but when she was about 7 months old she would choose to sleep during the time allotted for food. I tried adding yummier things to it, to leave it in with her for a bit longer but she just wouldn't really touch it. When she did it, it was very little. I was getting her weighed once a month and she was losing weight, so I started free feeding her. She gets her food in the morning, and the dish gets taken away at night. She eats slowly but she eats and then continually gained weight. I know alot of people are against free feeding (we do it will all of our dogs) but I think that some dogs just do better on it.
