Hey everyone! Just wanted to finally introduce myself as I've been reading all the threads for a little while now. My name is Katie and I live in Florida. I am NOT a neapolitan mastiff owner, but rather a possible future owner. I actually own a 16 month old bullmastiff. She is an absolute joy! Little background on her...my husband & I knew we wanted a bullmastiff, but really hadn't done much research yet. Long story short, I stumbled across her in a pet store (BAD!) and took her home. Thats when the nightmare began. I googled her "breeder" from her papers and was horrified and what came up. Google "Steve Kruse, puppy mill" and see what comes up. It is truly disgusting. I think I lost sleep from the guilt for at least a few weeks. Abbey (thats her name) had so many health issues - kennel cough, giardia, wouldn't eat hard food at first, chronic diarrhea, food allergies, and the list goes on. She was born in Iowa and ended up in Florida, so Lord knows at what age she was yanked from her mom. After having my eyes opened to the horrible world of puppy mills, I decided I wanted to help in some way. So, I became a volunteer for the ABA Rescue (American Bullmastiff Association). So far its been very rewarding and I've only temporarily fostered 1 boy.
Anyways, back to why I joined this group! I am completly fascinated with neapolitans. They are so ancient and magical to me. Now is definitely NOT the time to get another dog, but I really want to learn as much about this breed as possible. It may end up that they just aren't a right fit for me, but that's what I need to find out. I think for now I am just happy living through all of you by reading your stories & seeing all the photos. All the dogs on here are just gorgeous!
On a side note, if anyone ever hears of any shows in Florida where I can check out some neapolitans, please let me know!
