Karen- I'm not positive these are boils since I've never had one, but it is a nickel sized black spot swollen up like a big zit, so that's what we think it is. It's the surrounding swelling that worries me. If it's popped and drained, will the overall swelling go down? I've never seen testicles swell up like this. Two broke open and drained, and the swelling hasn't gone down.
I'm also wondering about how quickly they erupted. I was out of town for a couple days and noticed it after I got back. John says he didn't notice anything wrong while I was gone, but within 12 hours they ballooned up. Is that normal for a boil? beth. beth.
Try some antihistermine cream, it won't do any harm, they coud possibly be insect bites or stings, allergic reaction would make swelling worse... maybe flea bites? We visited my folks recently and the dogs could have picked up fleas. Maybe I should give him an antihstaminel? I don't have any cream, and I wouldn't want him to lick it off. beth.

I have seen ingrown hairs create boils on the testicles. It does go away if once drained you keep it clean and use any antiseptic. They can swell quite huge. Starrsdcct Neapolitans UGM Admin
Quick update on Grim- By Sunday the boils had all drained, and the antibiotics stopped the infection from growing. There wasn't as much "tightness" behind the boils, but the infection didn't subside and he was still as big as an orange. We cleaned it with antiseptic wash, kept neosporin on it, and kept him quite. At the vet on Monday I asked if if we had waited a couple more days with him on anitbiotics, would the infection have gone down, and they said no, probably not. It was pretty bad, and the surgury was more evasive than the usual neuter. Grimmy's got a 3 inches of stitches where his boys were, but he's doing well and not fussing over it, yet.
I feel bad about it. If I hadn't had to go out of town, I probably would have caught it sooner, as he's usually 3 feet from me all the times. But what can you do.
Thanks to everyone for the advise, and take care of infected hairs right away! beth. beth.
awww bless, poor Grim... Give him a hug from us! I noticed the only man to post a reply was phil... The rest are all probably sat there muscles tensed and crossed legged ...
