Karen, We started checking her progesterone for the delivery on day 56 or 58, at the vet, a blood draw..I would draw it at home and run it in, and have it in 2 hours. When it dropped to 5, (I think), following the trend, the vet delivered her the next morning. I believe it was day 62, I'll ask Bill later...
Thanks Anne, All the bits of information that gets thrown out on these threads is just wonderful...
I have read up a little, and know that about 48 hours before whelping, the progesterone level drops to the 2 ng/ml range and within about 24 hours of whelping, the level drops again to the 1 ng/ml range. Obviously this can help determine the proper timing of a c-section, especially if the progesterone level or LH level were not used to determine the ovulation date.
Whilst i think the test is relatively accurate there are those that don't (see this link) Click This Link
We live quite rural, so it is a bit of a trip to the vet and back, especially if we plan to test over 3 or 4 days. Hopefully there will be a reliable home kit brought out soon...

It was the same for us, about 40 minutes each way to the vet... Luckily, I was able to draw the blood myself, and didn't have to stress Fionna taking her to the vet. We have another delivery coming up soon, and will have to figure out soon where we will be testing.
We didn't test every day... it was every other day... except maybe the last day... don't remember exactly.. I think we only tested 2 or 3 times... It is a pain..... but I think it was worth it, for the puppies and Fionna.
Is there someone who drives into town every day that could possibly transport the blood? It isn't that hard to draw blood.
Good luck, and please keep us informed.. Anne Centurian Mastini
