Thanks, AKJNeo, let me tell you what happened. Venezia had a c-section, and somehow apparently got too much anesthesia. She didn't wake up till after midnite, (c-section was at 6), and the pups kept stopping breathing. We had to keep stimulating them, all night, until around 3 am.... I had them in a laundry basket, on top of a crate, in our little nursery kennel, in our basement... Nezia was sleeping in the pool, and when she woke up, she kept hearing the pups, and she was crying for them.... I couldn't give them to her, they kept quitting breathing... so, I would stimulate one, (stroked it HARD), like a mom cleaning her baby, and then would shake it lightly by the scruff of the neck if that didn't work, (and it usually didn't). They finally started breathing without stimulating around 2, and I forgot, we had to suction their airway with a bulb syringe... for loads of goobers.
The pups were fine, at the vet's office, awake, breathing well... The anesthesia really started to kick in on the way home... Venezia woke up with a med they gave her.. Dopam?? or something, but she fell asleep in the car, and barely made it to the house when we got home. We almost lost all 4... babies and mom.
I crashed around 3 am, oh, I also had to tube feed the babies, and I gave them sub-q fluids, also....
The babies were fine in the morning, but just a little congested, and they have flourished ever since..... But, yeah, it was a LONG first night...
It was a very valuable lesson for us, there is NO quarantee with any type of delivery. It was very scary...
You know, everyone always says that Neos are sensitive to anesthesia, and I always believed it, and now we have lived it!
Congrats Bill and Anne!!! I am glad they are all doing well now. Anne you are right until you see one react this way under anesthesia, you don't think much about it. I seen a perfectly healthy pup die under anesthesia, and Chimeras first crop she didnt wake for over 12 hours. It is scary. We are pulling for you guys, and keep us updated on plenty of pics!!!!
