Thank you for your kind words.

Interesting in how things change in the world of the mastino. Such kind things would NEVER have been said about me in public three years ago.

SO, to all those who feel bashed occasionally....just stick around. The weather changes!

2. I think you're stupid if you think it's ok to be rude.

3. My goodness. I would feel stupid if I purposely tried to be rude. I don't quite understand why you think that's ok.

What was your reaction to statement 1, especially if you felt it directed towards you? Yet, it is a clear OBJECTIVE statement of a personal opinion. Is it likely to generate a fruitful conversation? Likely to change anyone's opinion or way of thinking? Likely to make other newbies feel welcome? Or likely to ignite a firestorm, which as we've said before, is tantalizingly fascinating but hardly productive in providing education except to teach people to NOT participate.

Statement 2 seems to "try" to make it clear that the rude statement is someone's personal opinion but it really does nothing to change the probably reaction. In my opinion this is somene's attempt to be "politically correct" but failing.

Statement 3 is a way to say exactly what you want to say, to be just as objective and clear and direct....with a very reasonable chance of allowing the other person to react to the message and not the words.

That's all I'm saying. Be thoughtful of HOW you say what you want to say.

So very true. Thanks Peggy.

What I think is that it’s easier to be objective with the more dog's you have. I didn't see any fault in my loving companions when there were only one or two but as my collection grows I can compare them side by side and evaluate the differences. I absolutely disagree with the current show judging out there as a means of guiding our dogs towards a standard "with" health and longevity. There seems to be no true standard in place so objectivity steps aside to personal preference. What makes it worse is when a dog that you feel lacks the proper standards, becomes a champion.

Sorry might have steered off coarse a little lol..... I don't think PC is the issue as much as tact. It's the difference between calling someone a “fat a$$ " and telling them they could stand to lose a few pounds. Of course in like was stated earlier on the flip side ....... you got a mirror ..... get out of your state of denial..... you know your fat.... so if someone call's you fat don't be surprised. OK, ok ..... Tact

Well Bob, i understand what u are saying but IMHO that is one of the things that makes the Neapolitan mastiff sooo awesome
" they are not cookie cutter dogs". There is something of type for everyones taste. Its now, these years that will be talked about many years from now on which way we are moving or choices that where made towards these goals of health etc...Things take time and responsible breeding practices also. Time will tell

In correlation to that, I honestly think far too many mastini are being show in the last 3 or 4 years, IN the USA, that are too young and lack the maturity and TRUE essence of what the REAL mastino is and what was thought of when the mother country of the breed had in its sights for the standard that we have adapted here in the US today. I believe with time things will change, many are in the middle of breeding goal selections and progression continues towards an end result. But also many dont have the experience to see or even fathom what their end products will look like @ the age of 3 or 4 years old. Many are punting and hoping for the best IMHO which is just not taking experience and education into it. Yes u cannot take out all risk with breeding but let them be educated risks IMO with simple and plain goals attached.

Great point's Shantell & BOB. In my humble opinion in the last year in Aust and America I think there has been way to many random outcross breeding,s. Every breeder should have a type of dog in there minds eye they are trying to replicate or even improve on, I see breeding match's taking place that I honestly think to myself " what is the point or purpose of that mating to improve the sire and dam". To keep Type and consistency LINEBREEDING is more desirable and maybe bringing out and excellent outcross to freshen the blood maybe every 3rd generation.

Anyway just my thoughts, too much breeding going on for NO real purpose (maybe other than for the old plain obvious coin).
